MusicPlusTV.com version 3 has launched!

Hello, friends!

I'm very happy to announce that we've finally launched MusicPlusTV.com version 3. It's the culmination of many hours put in, as well as many friends and loved ones neglected over the past three months or so. I apologize to thsoe who essentially haven't heard from me in that time. I promise, it was so that I'd have this moment to share with all of you.

Here's a good rundown of what's up, courtesy of my good friend, coworker & CSS genius - Reverend Mitcz.

After many, many hours of work... long shifts that stretched on for days (one shift lasted over 63 hours), 3 weeks of internal beta testing and more changes/revisions than any human should ever be bothered to count...

MusicPlusTV.com v3.0 is LIVE!

Go get yourself an account. Try out our multi-file uploader (you can upload up to 300 files all in one shot). Browse our repository of 1000's of on-demand music videos. Blog in style with a full WYSIWYG HTML editor that works in every modern browser/OS combination. Watch the stream at twice the quality and dimensions as before (we're using a 640x480 stream, up from 320x240 from the old site). And uhh... well, you've just gotta see it to understand all the new shit.

Just understand we're in a semi-beta state. Some features are missing, others are half-implemented. But overall, we felt it was ready for the public, so we've put it up.

And don't worry about finding me on there - I'm added to your account by default ;)

Ditto me for the added-to-your-account by default thing. It's a nice perk of being one of two site creators.

If you're an artist, a business or just a social network whore, head on over! Sign up for your own account! Upload your band's music, videos, photos - anything you've got! The site is going to go through some heavy additions in the way of customization, and you'll be very happy with the features that we've got planned for all of you out there (especially those tailored towards specific user types like artist & business). If you sign up now, you're getting in on the ground floor.

Anyhoo, uh...yeah. We're both pleased to offer this site to the content creators of the internet, and also quite worried about how well the machines will handle the load. Speaking of that, if you're reading this and are proficient with any of the following buzz terms, I want to hear from you!

PHP

CSS

Flash

MySQL

Search optimization

Media processing (textual data, images, audio, video, mobile device oriented, etc.)

Internationalization

Web communities

Internet payment systems

Linux (we use CentOS - damn you debian for not having drivers for the newest equipment!)

Server hardware

Networking for LAN, WAN & Internet services

Artist management

Not like we're going to be hiring in the next couple of weeks...unless the site explodes in popularity to an insane degree. Here's to hoping, right? But yeah, seriously. Contact me, send me your resume and tell me about yourself and what you've done with regards to the items mentioned above. I'd like to familiarize myself with your work, and I may actually have the chance to bring you guys on the team in some capacity at some point in the not-too-distant future.

So yeah. If you want to reach me, head over to my profile and say 'ello! And while you're at it, go pat Mitcz on the back. You should all be in awe of his design and CSS godliness.

This entry is mirrored at my deviantART page.

I've been working on more writings regarding the drama here over at deviantART, but in light of all that's happening in the real world, it seems rather insignificant.

I actually saw someone on my side of the political fence say that they were on a track of thinking that led them to want to call for us blue-staters to turn our backs on the devestation taking place in the dirty[-er] south. To me, this is heartless, sickening and really quite stupid.

Heartless and sickening? Yeah. That anyone would consciously turn their backs on those in such a dire situation makes me fear for our species. Stupid? Very much so. All things aside, huge population centers that are generally tinted a slightly blue-ish shade of purple were among the hardest hit. Those who provided the red already bought up all the property upstate.

Regardless, had this disaster affected only die-hard conservatives, it's not right to turn our backs because of political affiliation. The only thing that keeps me from going ballistic on those I argue with online is that I know deep down that they only want for the greater good, just like I do. Their means of reaching that goal might be generally quite ignorant, but they can't be faulted for their intentions.

The situation in New Orleans brought me to tears today. I felt stupid for feeling such a connection to a place I've only been to a handful of times. Trying to load up the web page for the Generations Hall (where Celeste and I were married almost two years ago) was the straw that broke this camel's back. Admittedly, it didn't take much after days of constant news watching and updates from Celeste's family about how they're doing.

Why are the troops just getting there? Why was the situation allowed to get this bad? Considering that a huge percentage of troops and funds were allocated to rebuilding Iraq still leaves you at only the tip of the iceberg. The politics relevant here aren't just regarding the response, but the conscious lack of funding for preventative measures that led to a bad situation becoming much, much worse.

It's sad that some down there have resorted to violence. I wouldn't pass judgement on those left behind just yet, though. There was bound to be some bad apples causing trouble, but it's certainly no surprise that such large numbers of people have resorted to animalistic survival-of-the-fittest types of behavior when they've had no indication that help was on the way.

"Oh! But they should have left when they were told to!" What makes you think they didn't want to? Celeste covers that point at the link provided much better than I could ever hope to.

Initially I was pretty disgusted with the news media's standard-issue drooling over the opportunity for coverage of a disaster situation, but some, like Anderson Cooper, have regained a great deal of respect from me by really sticking it to the man regarding responsibility for this mess.

A big FUCK YOU goes out to all of those bitching about the politicizing of this event. If there ever was a perfect example of how and why our current administration is failing us, this is it. We need to drive this point home.

The disaster on the Gulf Coast isn't the worse thing happening in the world today. In fact, many others die in comparable numbers on a daily basis due to such things as hunger, doubt or oppression. What we're seeing live on the news right now should still at least remind us that we're all human beings. We can only hope that this realization will hit home in huge numbers and to a rise in awareness and compassion on a global scale.

I apologize for the rambling nature of this post. It's not very coherent and jumps from point to point without much in the way of linking of concepts or ideas, but it's the best I could do right now.

If you can, please donate or open your home.

Thompson, who unleashed the concept of "gonzo journalism" in books like "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," fatally shot himself in the head Sunday at his home near Aspen, Colorado, police and his family said.

"On Feb. 20, Dr. Hunter S. Thompson took his life with a gunshot to the head at his fortified compound in Woody Creek, Colo.," said a statement issued by Thompson's son, Juan Thompson, to the Aspen Daily News as reported by the Denver Post.

"The family will shortly provide more information about memorial service and media contacts. Hunter prized his privacy, and we ask that his friends and admirers respect that privacy as well as that of his family."

Hunter knew what it meant and what it felt like to be a freak among the norms. I never met him, but I know that I'm really going to miss him. Celebrity passings don't generally hit me very hard, but I have to admit that it's not easy right now to fight back tears.

I plan to honor him in the only way I know is appropriate - drug binge. Who knows? Maybe I'll finally get to meet him while in a psychadelic trance. Here's to hope, anyway.

David Cobb & Michael Badnarik: RECOUNT OHIO!

And now, time for my approximately-once-a-year post:

Green and Libertarian Presidential Candidates to Demand Ohio Recount: Go read it.

We should be thankful for these other-party candidates. They've officially noted that they will push for a recount of Ohio, upon confirmation of funds available to do so (donations needed!).

I've just donated $50 each to both campaigns toward this recount, as well as $50 today towards BlackBoxVoting.org. I recommend that any other American here (or our brothers and sisters in the world community who acknowledge that we're all in this together) put up as much as they can afford for this effort. We need to find out what happened in this election, and do what is necessary to prevent it from happening again.

This may be as close as we'll get to a fair result. Who knows how long the government checks into voting fraud from this year will take to come to fruition?

Please - it doesn't matter who you voted for; unless you want to assure that some votes don't count, you need to do your part and make sure this recount happens. Please donate.

David Cobb - Green Party [donate here! note "ohio recount" in the comments box! ]

Michael Badnarik - Libertarian Party [ donate here!]

Put this on your journals.
i'm feeling kinda weird right now. drove out to LA tonight so that celeste could change her bus ticket back home to a departure time tomorrow night. that issue got worked out with no problems, save a $9 fee for the original ticket cancellation.

the parking lot at the station is of the standard take-a-ticket-pay-as-you-leave variety. there's someone in the booth waiting to take your ticket who will inform you of how much you owe for the time that they graciously allowed you to park in their lot. this also at first was no problem.

usually i'm only at the terminal for a short amount of time, either dropping off or picking up celeste, so my parking is free (under 30 minutes, no payment required). when i hand my ticket over and learn (at the same time as the attendant) that i owe no money, we usually exchange a few kind words. i don't mind this at all and try to participate in this friendly exchange. often times i look forward to it, as even just a shred of positivity experienced at the greyhound station goes a long way.

tonight was much different. the first words exchanged were the common "hey, how's it goin?" "fine, how are you?" from there, it got a little more spicy.

attendant: "did that thing in your nose hurt?"
me: "a little, yes. no biggie though, it was worth it." [i smile at this point - i don't mind when people ask me about the septum piercing]
attendant: "how does your soul feel?"
me: "umm...well, my soul cried out in joyous celebration with the whole matter."
attendant: "you can't hear your soul."
me: "i can't hear my soul..?"
attendant: "you wanna know why?"
me: "sure, why?"
attendant: "because your soul is dead."

...definitely not the sort of thing i'd expect to be told by a greyhound bus lines parking lot attendant. i wasn't mad, i wasn't upset...i didn't really know how to feel. it was just a strange thing to have told to me. that comment was the first negative reaction i've gotten from this piercing.

i felt sorry for the guy - and not in the pompous i'm-so-much-better-off-and-not-nearly-as-ignorant way, either. hmm...on second thought, maybe the latter part of that classification does apply to me. i could have stayed there and argued for a bit, but knew that i would have been powerless to make that fellow understand how ridiculous his comment was.

part of me was insulted, i suppose. i haven't been pierced up for all that long, but one of my motivations for having holes in my face is to help people understand that just because i *look* a certain way, it doesn't mean that i necessarily *am* a certain way. the hurt from tonight i think comes from being judged in such a nonchalant manner. this man felt that it was within his jurisdiction to declare my soul as being dead. he came to this conclusion based solely upon a piece of metal that runs through the middle of my nose.

it was eye-opening though...as i sit here and write this, i've just realized that this must be at least somewhat what it feels like to experience discrimination and hatred based on race (or sexuality, clothing choice, etc.). it's different in that i can of course control how i look, but the part about unfounded conclusions based on inapplicable criteria holds true, methinks.

There was Jimmy James (Stephen Root) the station's wealthy, eccentric owner; Lisa Miller (Maura Tierney) a combative reporter who became Dave's lover; and Matthew Brock (Andy Dick) the strange but affable secretary.
Best of all was Bill McNeil (played to perfection by the late Phil Hartman), the self-absorbed anchor. Smartly written, terrifically acted and side-splittingly hilarious, "NewsRadio" wins new fans whenever it pops up in syndication.
Just imagine how many more people the show would convert if it were available on DVD.

Yeah, that's right.
alright. went to a show tonight at the chain reaction in anaheim. unfortunately, i didn't actually get to meet the person i was going there to meet. i could have stuck around afterward, but after reading what i write here, maybe it'll be clear just why i made a beeline to my car to leave right after the show.

the first band i saw play (since i was late) was "jupiter sunrise." they were alright, not really the style i enjoy but hey, at least they knew how to rock out. they were fun to watch, and sometimes that's enough. i might even try to download a few of their tracks if they have them available somewhere.

next up was this tool jonah. i swear, all i could think of was how i paid $9 to basically watch this guy whine. i felt ripped off. he had no band, no rock, no nothing. i'm guessing that he's the head of this "onelinedrawing" i keep hearing so much about. with my limited knowledge of his bandmate situation, i can only guess that he had some people quit or leave for whatever reason. if so, i can't fault him for that (though my own personal take on it is that if you don't have a complete band, cancel the fucking show). i certainly hope that what i saw tonight wasn't an example of how the shows always were. every song felt like an extension of the one before it and i thought the horror would never fucking end.

i'm generally cool with what people have to say in their music. i don't care what they think, they don't care what i think, and that works. my opinions are different than his. but this guy...oh man...this guy...it was all i could do to refrain from walking up to the stage and punching him in his face. what's his problem with people who want to be rock stars? music means different things to different people. i don't know who the fuck he thinks he is, honestly. why does this jerk feel that he is qualified and able to pass judgement on others like that? fact is, he's just as bad. if y'all could have seen how well he played into the hands of the high school circuit present, you'd know what i mean. it was a bunch of rats running up and pushing the button for more emo-pellets. please note that i don't think that everyone there fit that description - and if i know you (including talking to you on TEH INTARNET), i'm not talking about you here. if that weren't the case, i probably wouldn't waste my time with you.

the whole thing reminded me of the simpsons episode where the family moves to hank scorpio's planned corporate community, and bart ends up in the special class. remember the part where the class is playing musical chairs, with a higher number of chairs than students? then the teacher stops the music, everyone sits down, and she says "look kids, everyone's a winner!"

IT FELT LIKE THE MUSICAL REPRESENTATION OF THAT RETARDEDNESS.

no, i'm not that great of a writer. there's a lot of discontent about what i just saw that i can't even begin to think how to put into words. but i felt i had to try, and this is the result.
